PBL Board session was held in Khimki
On Saturday, December 15, 2012 in the press centre of Basketball Center Khimki of Moscow Region the Professional Basketball League Board session was held. It was attended by the leaders of PBL and VTB United League, as well as the representatives of the PBL clubs.
One of the most important issues was the discussion of the letter received on the eve by PBL Board Chairman Victor Bychkov, where Euroleague President and CEO mr. Jordi Bertomeu confirmed that the selection to the European Cups for Russian clubs next season will be by the following system. Every Russian team - VTB United League participant in the end of the season 2012/13 will earn the total score of points, that will combine the results of PBL championship and VTB United League play-offs. For each place in the PBL from first to tenth the clubs will get from 10 to 1 points accordingly. The results of VTB United League games will be considered as follows: the champion will earn 10 points, the finalist - 8, semifinalists - 6 points each, 1/4 finalists - 4 points each, 1/8 finalists - 2 points each. On the assumption of the total number of points, Russian teams will get the tickets to the Euroleague and Eurocup. Moreover, one wild card for the 2013/14 Euroleague Qualifying Rounds will be granted to 2012/13 VTB United League champion.
Victor Bychkov, PBL Board Chairman:
- For sure, we are pleased that the Euroleague finally clarified the question of the future of the Russian clubs in European competitions. Our clubs can breathe easy, because now they know what they are fighting for.
At the PBL Board session the FIBA proposal, according to which it would be suggested to give four "breaks" for the national teams during the season, was also discussed. Russian clubs almost unanimously adopted that it is unacceptable (eight clubs voted "for", one abstained from voting).
